DVD Advert

To create the magazine cover I used Photo Shop. In order to create stills for magazine cover I took some print screens from my finished music video which I thought best represented the band but also incorporated the colours I used to create a brand image in my album cover, these colours were blue red and yellow.

I took my ideas for the album cover from popular music magazines such as Kerrang! And ‘NME.’ These are the magazines in which I would expect to see such new up and coming bands like Mox Pox. The magazines not only show readers the new releases but also release exclusive interviews from the bands such as Razorlight, and The Artic Monkeys.

An interesting layout I found in one NME magazine was entitled ‘Exclusive First Interview’ and featured Artic Monkey and heart throb Alex Turner. I decided to base my magazine advert around this as I liked the colours and layout used. Although my article was perhaps slightly unconventional due to a college of pictures as apposed to one still of the band with text overlapping it. I copied the layout of the advert, using the black blocks containing the yellow writing in capitals. I thought this was eye catching for the audience and that is would stand out although the background picture was very vibrant and busy.

Each band member is present in the images in the background and using the stills from the video creates a great link for the band and makes the colours very familiar and easily associated with Mox Pox. Looking carefully and comparing the NME advert to my own the poses of the artists are very similar. They are both shots of the guitarist performing. I also incorporated shots of Jack (bassist) as well to create more general interest.

Album Cover Design For Mox Pox.

I created this image using paint and I believe it links well to my video as I tried to use the bold band products assoiciated with the band. Red, blue, yellow and white.

I used these colours in my when editing my video so they would be easily recognisable and stand out for my audience.

A Sound Similar To Mox Pox.

Below is a link for band Joy Divison - She's Lost Control. I believe Joy Division have a similar sound to Mox Pox.

Joy Division happen to be a band that which Josh, lead guitarist and myself both enjoy to listen to. Although I was unable to access the video I orginally wanted to use 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' I think the song and style of the video will influence the way I create my music video as it is this kind of style I wish to follow.

"Joy Division rapidly evolved from their initial punk rock influences to develop a sound and style that pioneered the post-punk movement of the late 1970s. According to music critic Jon Savage, the band "were not punk but were directly inspired by its energy". Their self-released 1978 debut EP, An Ideal for Living, caught the attention of the Manchester television personality Tony Wilson. Joy Division's debut album, Unknown Pleasures, was released in 1979 on Wilson's independent record label Factory Records, and drew critical acclaim from the British press. Despite the band's growing success, vocalist Ian Curtis was beset with depression and personal difficulties, including a dissolving marriage and his diagnosis with epilepsy. Curtis found it increasingly difficult to perform at live concerts, and often had seizures during performances."

This is a fan base website I found which has been created for the band;

Their target audience seems to be for an older audience, which I believe will benefit mox pox as it shows they have a more mature approach to their music as apposed to a typical pop teen band like Mcfly who are specifically targeted at a younger, less censored audience.

Filming The Video, And Setting The Location.

I was able to use the same location I used for the still shots I took to experiement; Earth Studios. After much deliberation we decided to move the equipment closer to the microphones so I could get a better quality of sound. This worked quite successfully as it is far clearer than it would be if I had filmed it in one take. When editing I can then take this sound recording and put it over the top of my final film.

The location was very easy to arrange and close to my house as we needed to make arrangeents with the band. We used a studio called 'Earth Studios' this happens to be the studios in which the ban normally practise anyway so rehearsing and sorting out technical equipment were easy for the band to do as they were very famaliar with the sound equiptment. In total Earth Studios is perfect for new bands as it has a rest area, and six available spaces in which to practise.

Lyrics 'On Your Own Again'

The song which the members of Mox Pox and myself have chosen to film a video for is 'On Your Own Again' one of the bands newest tracks, written by lead guitarist and vocalist Josh Harbord. Below are the lyrics in which will help me determine the story behind the video I film.

No destination, no transportation,
Out there on your own again

Your teary eyes are drying up, your on the verge of giving up,
Out there on your own again

Don't try and charm the birds from the trees,
Your a listener who don't tend to speak,
Out there on your own again

Late night dancing, all night romancing, all seems a distant dream
The rhythm of your heart, the touch of your sleeve,
All seems like a distant dream

No destination, no transportation
Out there on your own again

Pale walls are closing in, lights turned off it's getting dim,
Out there on your own again

The mystery speaker has spoken, all his promises have been broken,
Out there on your own again

Late night dancing, all night romancing,
It all seems like a distant dream
The rhythm of your heart the touch of your sleeve,
All seems like a distant dream

No destination, no transportaion,
Out there on your own again

Digipak.

The programme I am going to be using for making the Promotional CD case for the bands first single is a popular programme called Digipak. It consists of a cardboard casing with a out of stock binding. Similarly to a conventional CD case it has one or more plastic compartments to holding the disc. The casing will have aproximately four sides so I can design it to appeal to my target audience.

The aspects I will need to consider when designing the layout are specifics like colour scheme, font size and style and the style of language I will use to attract the correct audience and interest them in buying the the final product. In the foldout leaflet for this casing I can also include background information about the band to give their audience an understanding of the image they wish to create for themselves and the covert message behind the track it's self. The lyrics for 'On Your Own Again'; the song the band have chosen to play for the promotional video will also need to be featured in the leaflet. This will be both useful and beneficial to the selected target audience as they can gain more of an understanding of the track. It will also be an entertaining aspect as I believe the song has a catchy riff which will stick in the audiences mind causing them to sing the track. This will also boost the publicity for Mox Pox making them more popular with their audience and create a fan base of interest.
